When word got out Romney was going to make his VP pick Saturday, August 11, 2012, in Norfolk, Virginia the natural buzz was his pick would be Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. This was not only looked at as a logical conclusion but a good decision. One of the biggest reasons for this is McDonnell’s prowess in turning the budget around in Virginia. He is a well-known expense cutter/budget balancer. This alone would get the attention of many Americans who are on the fence but understand this country has been spending way too much.
Virginia is a very important state in this election. Many people think Romney cannot become President without winning it. Bob McDonnell may well have delivered the state of Virginia in November. This cannot be overlooked as a very important factor in choosing a running mate.
There are many Republicans who could fill the bill as vice president very well. However, with the governor on the ticket, the GOP would have boasted two governors on the same ticket.
However, as it turned out, McDonnell was not the pick. The announcement was made on the USS Wisconsin outside of Norfolk, which was a new wrinkle to making the announcement in Virginia. With Bob McDonnell at his side, Romney made the announcement his vice presidential running mate was to be Wisconsin Representative and House Budget Director Paul Ryan.
Realizing Ryan is now the pick means no one on Romney’s short list had been eliminated because they were not a governor. This means theoretically, Marco Rubio and Alan West were both in play. Many tea party enthusiasts were in the Rubio camp and a lot of us conservatives are big fans of Alan West.
Still, Ryan was the pick and it is a good one. You can be sure of this because Juan Williams was immediately sent out by the DNC to proclaim Ryan was just the pick the Dems wanted. Because of this alone, you can be assured they are shaking in their boots. Ryan is young enough to bring out generation X generation Y voters and certainly, they won’t be coming out for the rather long-in-the-tooth Joe Biden. Also, anyone who is using Obama’s youth as reason to favor him as their pick to vote Obama/Biden will now be found without an excuse.
At Tea Party Views, we are very happy the Republican 2012 presidential ticket reads Romney/Ryan. We have no reservations about Paul Ryan at all. The Democrats have already made an all out effort to ruin him by entirely misrepresenting his stance on budgeting matters. The Democrats are all out of bullets and we believe, more and more people are catching on to their tawdry tactics, which have no basis in reality. Paul Ryan tells these sleazy dirt throwing libs, “We need to have an adult conversation.” This is something liberals seem unable to do. Hopefully, Paul Ryan will lead undecided voters to this conclusion.
Congratulations to Representative Ryan!
